“Some of the most beautiful and personal storytelling to come from the genre in a minute– breathing new life into the groundwork set by storied acts like Against Me! and The Gaslight Anthem.” – Joel Funk, Substream Magazine
Let’s welcome these guys to DC with open arms, so they come back to sea of familiar faces when they’re ready for the Black Cat main stage.

We’re putting together something special for December…
It’s the week following Breakin’ Even Fest 2. So we wanted to recap the weekend and everything that went into it.
Once again, over the course of two nights we had 200+ people in the room despite rain and larger shows like The Black Lips and Coheed & Cambria within 15 minutes of Songbyrd.
The “business model” we run on is – keep ticket prices low and profit margins so tight that we’re operating under the assumption we’re losing money. Stupid? Yes. But despite our anti-corporate mantra we’ve continued to sneak by and break even. We also raised $300 for Girls Rock! DC through your shirt and tote purchases. Hell yeah!
Breakin’ Even Fest is a celebration of music and the people who fill the rooms to experience it. We hope you found your new favorite band at this little festival and we hope to see you next year.
Ethan McLeod @ DCist for taking the time to interview people and pull together a great fest preview.
Jordan Snowden @ DC Music Download for interviewing us about what we’re learning by running this thing and how it’s evolved over 2 years.
Matt Cohen for helping us announce the fest with City Paper
Jeff @ Punk News for helping spread the word far and wide.
Keaton @ Castathetic for letting Flowerbomb hype the fest on the podcast.
Washington Post, Brightest Young Things, and anoyone who included us in their weekends lists of things to do.
To Mike @ Two Proof Films for working with us on the promo trailer
Didn’t get a shirt or tote at the fest? Want to support because you couldn’t make it? We’re going to raise some extra money for Girls Rock! DC by making them available by email.

People want set times. We get it, gotta plan accordingly… But for real, please come out and support the bands for the entire night. So much goes into this event and many of these bands are the ones who fuel the DC music scene.
Show them you care by supporting them. If you want to hear any of them now, head over to the band page.
$30 two-day and $15 single day tickets are still available.
@breakinevenfest on facebook or twitter if you’ve got any questions!
We hit 600 likes tonight, so we wanted to give you a peek at some of the goodies inside this year’s merch raffle. These raffle boxes weigh about 20lbs each! That’s alot of stuff, including music, shirts, and other goodies from Epitaph, Side One Dummy, Asian Man Records, Royal Mountain, The Beautiful Music, Black Numbers and 6131.
$2 per raffle ticket / 3 for $5
All money raised will go to the bands on the festival.
We’re going to be selling Breakin’ Even Fest shirts and totes at the show. Every dollar from these sales will go toward Girls Rock! DC, the non-profit volunteer run music education camp. Girls Rock! DC creates a supportive, inclusive, and creative space for girls, non-binary, and trans youth of varying racial, ethnic, religious, and socioeconomic backgrounds; abilities; identities; and experiences to develop their self-confidence, build community, stand up, and rock out!
